CCA Announces Name Change
- Published 06/24/2010
The Greek philosopher Heraclitus said that one can never stand in the same river twice—that change is constant. That statement is never truer than when applied to our dynamic sector of higher education. Therefore, I am excited to report that yesterday your Board of Directors voted to change the Career College Association name, adopted almost 20 years ago, to the Association of Private Sector Colleges and Universities (APSCU). The vote culminates a rigorous, multistep review process that began in 2005, including a detailed survey of member preferences last December. In voting the change, the Board recognizes the evolution of career oriented education from its primarily trade school roots to a multi-dimensional, multi-faceted, multi-modal philosophy of higher education delivery that directly responds to the demands of 21st century students, employers, and the larger economy. The phrase "private sector" is synonymous with innovation in virtually every walk of life, and the public's faith in private sector solutions to solve most of society's biggest challenges will carry over into the realm of higher education too.

Letter to Secretary of Education Arne Duncan on Gainful Employment
- Published 03/23/2010
from the Career College Association | 03.23.10
Below you will find a letter from several Congressional leaders to Secretary Duncan on the gainful employment issue. The letter was delivered today. We owe a debt of gratitude to all the signatories, especially Congressmen Payne, Hastings, and Kline who took the lead.
Please note that while several CCA members participated in targeted advocacy efforts, Congressman Payne asked us to refrain from a widespread solicitation of signatories. However, the 500+ CCA members and students who participated in our March 10th Hill Day successfully laid the groundwork for this letter by visiting with their Congressional representatives during the March 10th Hill Day.

CCA Responds to New York Times
- Published 03/18/2010
email from Harris N. Miller, CEO/President, Career College Association | March 15, 2010
Peter S. Goodman’s article, “In Hard Times: Lured Into Trade School and Debt,” published in Sunday’s New York Times, was full of extreme bias and misinformation. CCA is deeply troubled by the article and has already demanded and received one major correction to the article. We are also asking that a Letter to the Editor be published and a correction be appended to the article.
Over the next few days and weeks, we will continue our efforts to set the record straight, and stop those whose prejudice against our sector is based on anecdotes, not facts. Already, we have sent a copy of our Letter to the Editor to nearly 2,000 education reporters around the country and published the letter on our website in addition to CCA’s blog and CCA’s Twitter and Facebook feeds. We are also distributing it to Capitol Hill and the Administration.
Our staff has worked tirelessly through the weekend to stand up for our students, our employees and our schools. We are continuing to reach out to the news media and members of Congress to ensure they have the complete information about the value of career higher education.
Below is a link to a copy of the letter we sent to the media on behalf of our 2.8 million students and over 200,000 employees. Also included is a detailed explanation of why we are taking on The New York Times that may help you explain to people how our sector and our students were so unfairly treated.
